You're just trying to scare me.'

'I'm trying to make you think. The Nocturn won't hesitate to kill either of us, and it will show no mercy. We have to be prepared.'

'So what's the plan?'

'First things first — we need to get the lights back on.' They had reached the house. The Doctor led her around the side until they reached the doors set into the ground by the wall. He opened them with his sonic screwdriver and then went down the steps into the cellar.

It was pitch black and smelled of damp. The Doctor fished out his bicycle lamp and shone it around. There were some old tables, a number of dusty wine racks and, in the corner, a large control panel.

'Here we are,' said the Doctor. He handed the torch to Gisella and then, putting on his glasses, quickly checked the controls over. 'It all seems to be in order. Someone must have rigged it to switch off automatically during dinner.'

'Can we switch the lights back on from here?'

'Oh yes.' The Doctor brandished his sonic screwdriver. 'It's just a question of finding the right control frequency.'
